In loving memory of Philip Stephen Croson who sadly passed away on 15th October 2016.
Words By Simon Croson - its difficult to write and do justice to what was a very adventurous life - i only knew a small part of what was such a diverse and loving time, Phil liked most people.
Phil was born in the very cold winter month of January 1963 in Kirkby in Ashfield, he spent much of his childhood growing up on the Kingsway estate with a very close knit group of friends and neighbours, such was growing up in the 1960s and 70s. Friendships were formed that would last a lifetime and Eric Smith was such a person who was with Phil from being little boys together to the very lasts days. Phil was a practical type of person who could, over his lifetime, turn his hand to most practical tasks. He had a fascination for seeing and understanding how things worked and wasn't frightened of taking anything apart to see how it worked - he could also put things back together. He went to Morvan Park infants school, Kingsway School and Ashfield Comprehensive - to be honest Phil didn't like school that much but he did make some good friends.
He left school at 16 and worked for Birds Butchers on Kingsway, not a job that everyone could do but Phil loved it. He went on to follow in Dads footsteps as painter and decorator with Wheatley's of Kirkby.
Phil worked for Ropave for a few years again enjoying doing a hard job making and repairing roads, he married and was father to his only Child Samantha in 1986. During this time Phil kept fit by working out and also by taking part in many road running activities - The Great North Run and the Nottingham Marathon amongst a number of his "ticks" off road running took him to complete the "Tough Guy" challenge - a crazy cross country assault course in the depths of winter and through fire and ice cold water - Such was his passion for adventure. Phil also liked the Martial Arts and began to study the art of JIU JITSU.
Phil was married for a relatively short period as things didn't work out, he had moved on to working at Charcon Tunnels as a steel fixer and concrete structure fabricator - again another hard job but Phil was so proud to work for this company and met another chap who would become a solid freind - Greg.
This is a period in which me and Phil drifted apart for a short time but i know he went on to become a Black Belt in his Jiu Jitsu - another massive achievement.
Phil loved music and had a very wide choice, just listening to his iPod has shown what an appetite he had - from Kraftwerk, Bob Marley, Beatles, Genesis, Motown, Rock, Classics, Carpenters - the list and diversity goes on.
Phil loved fishing from being a very young boy visiting the Quarries with his fishing net to very recently pulling out 20lb plus carp with his fishing buddy Mick.
Almost 10 years ago Phil met Lisa who was to be his wife and life. Phil was working with a building company and happened to have breakfast in a cafe as a routine and this is where he met Lisa, Lisa worked in the cafe and they made a connection which would lead to their eventual marriage just two years ago.
Phil and Lisa had some great years together, they lived, loved and travelled. They set up home in Langley Mill a few years ago and made lots of friends and enjoyed being close to family.
An opportunity arose for Phil and Lisa to make a new start and open "Busy Bees Catering" a mobile food outlet which allowed them both to work together and work close to home, with business going very well Phil was very suddenly taken ill and the rest is clear for all to see.
Phil was only 53 and had so much more to give and live for, for those lucky people who were a part of Phil's life you will know that Phil was the sort of person who would move mountains to help and made so many friends were ever he went. He will be badly missed but has left so many happy memories, Rest in Peace Phil, we will never forget You. xxxx
