In loving memory of Andrea Michelle (Andi) Oakley who sadly passed away on 4th October 2016.

Andi was born in Luton in 1955. Growing up she had a natural talent for many things including ballroom dancing, in which she became an English bronze winner in championships and danced at Blackpool and Wembley. She was also a fantastic swimmer, swimming the English channel in her teens.

At school, Andi developed a flair for languages and went on to study French and Italian at Bangor University, graduating with a Post-grad degree in 1978. Her studies took her on many travels where she continued to live from adventure to adventure and became a strong and morally grounded woman.

Throughout her career, Andi worked in Godalming and later at the Royal Latin School in Buckingham where she made many friends and helped many students achieve high grades in languages. She later moved to the Lord Grey school in Bletchley where she was promoted to Assistant Head Teacher. She often came home fired up from the challenges that had been thrown at her but her anger was simply a sign of the passion and devotion she had for helping her students be the best they could be.

In her retirement, Andi developed her artistic abilities, showing incredible creativity. She would often describe each of her paintings at great length to anyone that would listen! Her artwork will be on display at the wake following the funeral and some items will be available to buy with all proceeds going to Danetre Hospital which is where she was lovingly looked after in her final months.

Andi was a loving Mum to Charlotte, and imparted many of her values which Charlotte will carry on throughout her life; tolerance, open-mindedness, and independence. Andi also had another daughter, Sian, who lives in Wales with her two sons. Anyone that knows Sian will see the similarities in their vivaciousness, kindness and smiles.

Throughout her life Andi made so many good friends with her natural charm, wit and love of life. She was adored by everyone that crossed her path and though she leaves a hole in many of our lives, she will live on in our hearts and with many fond memories.

Au revoir Mrs Oakley. You were a true inspiration to me at RLS and the main reason I became a languages teacher. I hope my lessons are even half as fun and as yours were! With love and thanks Claire xxx

RIP Mrs Oakley, one of the best teachers I ever had at RLS. You always made our lessons enjoyable (while still making sure we learnt everything of course). I'll never forget the extra time you put in outside of lessons to help me when I was struggling to complete a written piece for my GCSE, all those years ago in 1998/1999. Looking back later in life, I can see your patience was a quality to be admired.

More recently, I knew you (and through you, Charlotte) as a customer in the shop where I work my second job. You were always happy to see me, to take the time to talk to me and ask how I was doing with work, studying, relationships and house buying / ownership, and you showed genuine interest in how I was getting on, all these years later. You always spoke fondly of Charlotte and told me how well she was doing; I know you'll be looking down on her with pride.

Au revoir, repose en paix.
Until we meet again, rest in peace.

Matthew xxxx
