So sorry for your loss such a great man. Remember when he used to pop in to my work, he never failed to make me laugh. He bought his Mondeos from me and it was such a pleasure dealing with him over the years. So shocked to hear the sad news. Love to you all

We all know what a character dad was - you knew where you were with him, and if he didn't like something then he would say so! It is this brutally honest approach, combined with his love of chatting to people that won him many good friends, who will sadly miss him now.
In his childhood he was a choirboy, and never lost his love of music and singing - he brought me up to believe that "music is good for the soul", and our home (and the car) was frequently filled with music. He often fondly remembered his time working as an engineer at Rolls Royce, where he joined as an apprentice upon leaving school - it seemed to be a time in his life when he was very happy - and also where most of his obnoxious jokes were born!
And when he met mum, things moved at whirlwind speed. He remained utterly devoted to her his whole life, and there's nothing he wouldn't have done for her. I think when he married mum, his life was complete.
Dad liked the simple things in life: a pint, a song, a laugh, a good Western, old TV sitcoms, and of course, his motorbike. I think he found a lot of peace cruising around the Derbyshire countryside on that bike.
Such a big character will obviously be sorely missed. But I hope he is at peace (hopefully riding his bike around somewhere!).
Please feel free to add your own memories of dad on this page too.
