In loving memory of Bob Matthews who sadly passed away on 14th September 2016.

My lovely Grandad Bob, my rock, the person who has always been there for me. We shared many happy memories visiting places, family holidays and celebrations.

At the grand age of 98, Grandad had experienced many events, he grew up in a small village outside Worksop, his childhood home now a crumbling cottage, as a child he would play with Winston Churchills daughters when they went to stay at the estate close by.

Grandad managed to win a scholarship at a prestiges school and he had a wealth of knowledge, before the internet if I needed to know anything it was Grandad I would ask. Even until recently if you wanted to know the quickest route somewhere Grandad would know, despite not driving for nearly 30 years.

Grandad met my Nan, Peggy who was working at one of the stately homes near to Worksop, they married and set up home in Derby.

Grandad was a soldier in the Second World War, posted to Iceland where he would play football until 3am due to it never getting dark. He was later at Dunkirk, although as Grandad told us, he was one of the fortunate ones and didn't even get his feet wet.

After the war, Grandad and Nan, moved to Buxton Road, it was a new housing development with fields all around, the fields have now become Oakwood. Grandad lived in the house for 70 years. A house that has many happy memories. Grandad was fortunate to have had many lovely neighbours, in particular Ann who picked up his morning newspaper every day for around 35 years.

Grandad had 3 children, Robin, Liz and Nick. He was proud to tell people about the achievements of all his Grandchildren and how Andy works in a prominent position in Australia, Tim doing so well for Birds Eye, in particular the 'fish in a bag', which Grandad told everyone in the supermarket was down to his Grandson and Chris who joined the Royal Marines and more recently has become a first response paramedic and myself who I know he was proud of for going to University.

Grandads funeral is at 9.40am at Markeaton Crematoriam on the 21st September 2016.
