Marian Cole (19 Nov 1918 - 1 Sep 2016)
In loving memory of Marian Cole who sadly passed away on 1st September 2016.
Marian, better known as Bunty Bellamy, was born in the small country town of Upton-on-Severn in Worcestershire, the daughter of the High Street Family Butcher. She was educated at Tewkesbury High School.
As a young teenager her beauty did not go unnoticed by Harold, a boy several years her senior, who lived across the road. A romance developed but their lives took separate directions. Bunty left home at the age of 17 to start training as a nurse at the Evelina Children's Hospital in London while Harold was studying for his Degree and teaching in a boys' school.
They married in 1939 and started married life in a new, detached home in Worcester Park, Surrey. This was to remain their home for their entire married life. The marriage was blessed with two children, Veronica born in 1940 and Ted in 1943.
Bunty never worked during her married life and invested her time and energy in raising her family, being active in her local Church (especially in the Mothers' Union), in the local choir and in the Townswomen's Guild.
In 1973 Harold sadly passed away leaving Bunty a widow in her 50s. The two had been so devoted to each other that Bunty remained single for the rest of her life, never seeking another partner. She took driving lessons to drive the family car, took-over management of domestic finances and got herself a job in the Ministry of Agriculture at Tolworth Tower.
In the late 1970s, after Bunty retired from Government service, she moved to a maisonette in Mulgrave Road, Sutton and joined St Nicholas Church. She started introducing herself from then on as Marian. She downsized in 2007 to a retirement flat in Hampton Lodge, Cavendish Road, Sutton. Always content with her life, always outward-going and caring for others, Marian lived to the grand old age of 97.
