In loving memory of Roy William Gibson who sadly passed away on 2nd September 2016.
Loving husband to Sheila Gibson, amazing father and role model to David Gibson and Peter Gibson-Black, loving father-in-law to Angela Gibson-Black and Gail Gibson. Much loved and greatly missed granddad to Callum Gibson-Black, Jodie Gibson-Black and Millie Gibson.
Roy was a truly wonderful man who loved his family very much and worked extremely hard to support them during his life. His main occupation was as a driver, mainly HGV work for various companies over the years. He also professionally drove coaches, taxi's and even a Bread Van in his early days. He drove his own car so slowly that mum would comment that the sheep had 'lovely eyes' on the way to Skelmersdale.
As well as Driving, Roy also spent a considerable amount of his career as a Printer, operating and maintaining large production runs. Watching him skilfully work machines and manoeuvre huge vehicles baffled me as a child.
Roy could turn his hand to anything and had well over 40 jobs during the years. Up to the age of 61 he was still working 70 hour weeks on the Lorries. He suffered a heart attack in June 2003 and this effectively ended his career. He was cared for during this time by Mum and could not have had a better, more considerate, devoted and patient carer. He spent most of his days doing what he wanted, holding his remote control, resting, eating blocks of cheese, playing with his grandkids, watching them grow, laughing at comedy repeats on daytime TV (to mum's annoyance - although she misses that now), betting on the horses, popping the 'offy', drinking strong lager and sipping Scotch. Basically enjoying his retirement and later life.
After an 18 month War with a number of health problems, Lung Cancer included; Roy lost his final battle and could take no more. He was the bravest man I have ever met and never once complained about all the pain he was in and the operations he went through.
It was an honour to call him Dad and we will never forget him. He will live on through his children and their children.
God bless Dad. Rest now pal.
Pete. On behalf of the family. x
