My family knew Alan from his school days and when in his company it was always fun. I remember him walking around the shop floor of Sainsbury's at Hempstead Valley checking that his store was functioning to a high standard. He was busy but always had time to say Hi and chat for a while. I will always remember Alan with fondness and cannot top all the comments here as it's clear he was truly loved and admired. Rest in peace dear friend.

I will always remember Al as the only adult I could ever properly relax with when we were teenagers. Never judgemental, he could have a chat without lecturing and an open heart which translated into a warm, generous and welcoming home. He accepted everyone just as they were, could party late into the night and always had a twinkle in his eyes. Rest in peace Alan.

In loving memory of a great man who, when I was little made me believe a tortoise ornament was eating the sweets I put in its shell!!
Little did I know when I left the room it was him eating them!!
Rest in peace dear Alan.

To my uncle. You were such inspiration, not only to me but to everyone you met. You bought happiness, love and laughter to everybody and encouraged me to follow my dreams. You always encouraged me but challenged me at the same time. You were my strength and you will never be replaced. Paul and I were so lucky to have such an incredible and influential uncle. The angels have gained so much. Enjoy the Angels share of your Dalwhinnie. Love and miss you every day, goodnight my uncle love you xxxxxxxxx
