In loving memory of David Cook who sadly passed away on 14th August 2016

Where should I start about this man I was married to, well with the confusing fact that he had three names Richard to his family, David to the folks this side of the river, and Dick to his friends he had from school. but no matter what name you know him by he would go out of his way to help you.

His adventures started at a young age. taking the long trip to Canada, to visit his father, Captain of a liner on the St Laurence. To make sure he did as he was told his father would make him his cabin boy and give him small tasks to do and of course this led to his own career at sea. joining the Royal Navy at 17 and doing his apprenticeship at HMS Fisgard and HMS Caledonia finishing his time as a CPO on the Ark Royal. this was followed be his time in the mercantile as a engineering officer and later his contract work all over Africa. The last country was Zimbabwe where he would have stayed if it was not for a certain leader of that country.

Throughout David's time in my life he has been a big part of the Gainsborough branch of the British Legion, playing a big part in fund raising during the poppy appeal each year, having a stall for many of the events in the area such as Lark in the park etc and of course being the standard bearer at many an event in town and surrounding area, I do believe he will be sadly missed by all who had the honour of crossing paths with him during this time.

Dave nurse his Mum through her illness, and he as you know for the past two years had given me the hope and the courage to get through mine so it is ironic that as we planned what we would do when I could walk better that he should loss his but even in this he has helped others with his organs. At this time I cannot believe he is gone, both I and Becky wake up looking for him and then remember he is not here Rest in Peace my darling, I and a lot of other people loved you.

Being with you as a child was never dull - being shot at by a farmer for crossing his field in harvest time, watching Quatermass and the Pit in Owston Ferry with eyes half closed, falling out of trees into beds of nettles, messing about on the river. All very exciting for your city cousin! We had some fun together. RIP Richard.

So sorry Mary, I know we didn't always see eye to eye but that didn't matter because he looked after you and that is all that matters. I don't know if I can get to the funeral but if everything goes ok next week I will definitely try. RIP Dave
