So sad to hear Len has passed away. I first met him just a few years ago when he contributed to an oral history we were producing about Southwark Park. He told us some lovely tales several of which ended up in the book. His memories gave a great insight into how things had changed over the years since he was a boy. It was evident Len knew so much about Bermondsey and Rotherhithe, and much else besides, and he was very generous with his time in sharing his knowledge. Len was sharp-witted, amusing and good company and meeting him always brightened up the day. He will be greatly missed. Condolences to all his family and friends.

Ann and I were deeply saddened to that Len had passed away.

When I went to that first meeting about Canada Water at was then the Holiday Inn my firmest memory was the way that your dad spoke. He, for me was the living embodiment of such a strong and firm pride in being at the heart of our capital city, that had lived through war, the closure of the Surrey docks and dramatic changes in the lives of the people of Bermondsey and Rotherhithe.

I always felt privileged that I, a new resident of Rotherhithe could meet, talk to, learn from and enjoy the company of your dad.

Whether through his work with the trade union movement, his life in Bermondsey, Rotherhithe & the Canada Water community or his love of his family he gave his whole commitment and heart.

He was a wonderful man.

Both Ann and I would like to express sympathy and condolences at your loss.

In the thirty two years I have known Len he was forever cheerful and contented, someone who was always pleased to see you. His easy going manner made you feel comfortable and relaxed when you were in his company. He would ask about my family with genuine care and concern whenever I saw him and be interested in what was happening in my life. A real gentleman, truly a gentle man, he will be missed terribly, but his spirit will be carried in our hearts. Rest in peace dear Len.

Len will be sorely missed by all, especially all those in his beloved Bermondsey- I Will always remember Len for his calm but calculated speeches at many council and community meetings over many years - Len said it straight and from the heart, because he knew Bermondsey & Rotherhithe like the back of his hand. Learnt that you didn't have to shout to get your point across. Deepest Sympathy to Mary and Family...from Steve Cornish & Family
