Mary Frances Kelly
(1st April 1928 – 2nd August 2016)
Known as Frances by her family and friends, Mary Frances Kelly, died peacefully in her sleep on Monday, 2nd August 2016 at the Northampton General Hospital. She was the beloved mother to Raymond, David and Carmel, and the much beloved grandmother of Andrew, Brian, Brendan, Kevin, India, Maya, Sian and Vaughan, and great grandmother to David, Matthew and Anne. Born at the family home in Broadford, County Clare in Ireland, Frances was the youngest daughter of James and Emma Vaughan.
As a young girl Frances worked on the family farm, shop and pub. She was an adventurous child, and an accomplished horsewoman, and very popular with all, including at her church, where she played the organ with great aplomb every Sunday for more than 10 years.
Frances left Ireland in 1950 to work as a nurse initially in Liverpool, England, where she became a State Registered Nurse and Certified Midwife. Three years later, at the grand age of 25, she married her first boyfriend, Tom, who had left Ireland for England just a few years earlier. They moved to the London area in the mid 1950’s where the first two of their three children, Carmel and Raymond, were born. The family moved to Northampton in 1962 where their third child David was born. Frances lived in Northampton for 54 years working for over twenty years of them at the Northampton General Hospital as a nurse and eventually as a phlebotomist.
Frances was a very popular woman with all who came into contact with her, and she was a beloved friend to many and adored by her family. She will be sorely missed.
