I fondly remember being taught by Terry between 1987 and 1990. He was a very kind and gentle man with many a funny story of his younger days. He was obviously very proud of his family and often talked of them in glowing terms. I shall always remember him with a pipe in hand.
Terence Hewitt (24 Jun 1932 - 20 Jul 2016)
In loving memory of Terry Hewitt, who passed away peacefully on the 20th July 2016, aged 84 years. Beloved husband of Rosalie, loving father to Nick and devoted grandfather to Cerys and Daniel.
After growing up in rural Wales and studying at Aberystwyth University, Terry spent two years as a National Servicemen in the Royal Navy, an experience of which he remained very proud. Afterwards, he embarked on a teaching career, moving to Chalfont in Buckingamshire and teaching at the Chalfont County Secondary School, where he met Rosalie Milgate, He married her in 1965, and they moved to Kingston-upon-Hull where their son Nick was born two years later.
In 1971, Terry took the opportunity to move into Higher Education, taking a job as a Geography Lecturer at Froebel College, part of the Roehampton Institute (now University of Roehampton) in west London, where he stayed for the rest of his career, eventually becoming Deputy Principal. The family moved south to Surrey, living in a succession of villages; first Byfleet, then Send, and finally Ripley.
Terry retired in 1997, and began a second career teaching Environmental Studies to mature students at the University of Surrey. He also took up golf, and he and Ros embarked on ten years of world travel, taking in Canada, Australia, Italy, and the USA.
Terry was a kind, gentle, loving and patient husband, father and grandfather. He will be very much missed.
