Rest in peace Uncle Bode.

You are missed daily more than we can phantom. You left too soon for us but who are we to question why.

God knows why you were taken so early but we thank him for the time he gave us to spend with you.

The impact and footprints you left behind in this world.

Thank you Uncle Bode for the time and the love you gave to us.

I'm struggling to find the words to describe your sudden departure Uncle B. You left us far too soon.
Asking our creator a millions times over for the why and how but accepting he alone knows best.

I will truly miss my Uncle B who was always sure to set me straight on all life's matters.
Your funny, caring, kind and warm demeanour infectious with those you touched.
We were privileged and blessed to have had you in our lives as our granduncle [Ini & Ore], uncle (Mope, Ronke, Kofi & Tosin) brother ['Motunde] & in-law [Kola]

I simply wish there was more time to sit & savour life together but alas this will be no more.
I miss you deeply more so for mum who will be lost without your Sunday catch ups.
In keeping with my promise to you we'll pray and continually support those you've left behind Auntie Liz, Richard, Stephen & Rachel.

I know you are safe in heaven, resting in the bosom of our Heavenly Father.
Remember to keep a watchful eye over the family you left behind.
We will honour and remember you till we meet again.
Rest now dearest Uncle B, you'll be missed each passing day, Love-Temi

Uncle Bode, you left us too soon, too soon. Your smiling face and down to earth attitude are memories I will cherish. As we say goodbye and adieu to you Uncle, you are rejoicing with the angels above. Lord remind us all how brief our time on earth is so that we live each and every day fulfilling our purpose here on earth. Auntie Liz, Richard, Steven & Rachel, we mourn with you at this difficult time but be rest assured that Uncle Bode is now in the presence of Him that is full of joy and peace. Love Mope, Tosin, Ini & Ore Alo

I will miss you dearly uncle, you’ve been kind, caring and loving always willing to lend a hand of support to anyone in need. I’m so grateful to God and proud to have had you for an uncle.
I’m also glad that Trinette, Mia and I had the opportunity of seeing you and the family last December. You have always been “easy going” and my memory of you is pleasant, fun and full of laughter always putting a smile of my face. We love and miss you dearly and I’m prayer for Liz Richard Steven and Rachel for God comfort and care, till we meet again Uncle Bode keep resting in the arm of the Almighty.

A good heart has stopped beating, a good soul ascended to heaven.
I am deeply saddened by the loss that your family have encountered. I hope that our Lord brings
your family the much-needed comfort and peace during this sad time. RIP. Sun Re o Aburo

Yoruba Funeral Song
The poet accepts that though the dead may be reincarnated in different form,
life has to continue as normal. The dead ‘cannot receive double punishment’.

The hunter dies
and leaves his poverty to his gun
The blacksmith dies
and leaves his poverty to his anvil
The farmer dies
and leaves his poverty to his hoe
The bird dies
and leaves its poverty to its nest.
You have died
and left me abandoned in the dark.
Where are you now?
Are you the goat
eating grass round the house?
Are you the motionless lizard
on the hot mud wall?
If I tell you not to eat earthworms
it’s like asking you to go hungry.
Whatever they may eat in heaven,
partake with them.
A dead body cannot receive double punishment.
If there is not cloth to cover it,
there will always be earth to cover it.
