Margaret Gwendoline Christine Land was born on 14th May 1931 in Tilbury, Essex, eldest daughter of Dorothy and Sidney.
The family moved to Peterborough with Sid's job in the early '30's, living in Fengate and later, St Pauls Road, New England.
Margaret, known to family and friends as Peg, attended Lincoln Road School for Girls.
She trained as a seamstress at Watkins & Stafford in Fitzwilliam Street, later moving to a job at Clingbines in Cross Street. It was here that she noticed one Ben Norwell, who worked over the road at The Peterborough Standard. Romance blossomed and the couple were married at Paston Church on 28th June 1952.
'Peg' and Ben lived in Peterborough throughout their lives, first Cromwell Road, Willesden Avenue, Itter Crescent and finally Eastfield Grove.
Long term friendships were formed with neighbours and through Ben’s sporting connections. Margaret would recount the happy hours watching Ben play football and cricket, helping keep score and serving teas.
In later years Margaret joined Ben on the green as they enjoyed many Bowls championships together, providing regular holidays in Torquay and Worthing in particular.
The couple were proud parents of three boys, Richard, Philip and Graeme. Margaret was a devoted mother and housewife througout her life, always on hand as 'Nanna' when the families presented grandchildren Joanne, Emily, Oliver, Benjamin, Alastair, Wesley and great grandchildren Raphael and Sophia.
Although Margaret suffered with failing sight for over 30 years, she did not allow this to hold her back and regularly played darts at the weekly 'Blind Club'.
Sadly Margaret was widowed in March 2000, losing Ben to cancer. Tragically her youngest son, Graeme, died two years later.
Margaret remained in the family home until 2013, when, due to failing health, she moved to spend her remaining years being lovingly cared for at Lavender House, Broadway, where finally she passed away peacefully on Wednesday 13 July 2016, aged 85 years.
Margaret/Peg was a friend, sister, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, who will be sadly missed by us all.
