In loving memory of Arthur Ernest Alexander Wenton who sadly passed away on 21st June 2016.

Julie Wenton-Parry wrote

I'm so upset that I was unable to join my family in saying a final farewell to my amazing, beautiful and inspirational, great uncle Arthur today, the last of the Wenton elders.

To many, a great uncle is a distant relative... To me, and the rest of the Wenton family, my Great Uncle Arthur was our ancestoral link, our roots, our historic representation and an example of true goodness we all aspire to.

My Great Uncle Arthur gave me a priceless gift, the gift of heritage and legacy. He shared with me the history of the Wenton family. A history he spent many years researching. That, to me is the greatest gift.
A gift that drives me everyday to be the very best I can be. The gift of understanding my roots and feeling immense pride in celebrating my heritage. And a sense of responsibility for continuing and sustaining our family name.

From slavery, to supporting the establishment of a Freetown in Sierra Leone to continuing the journey to the shores of Liverpool were we continue to make great strides in the fields of entertainment, medicine, care, charity, culture, education and business.

Uncle Arthur encouraged me and all the Wenton family to be proud of our legacy, celebrate our heritage and most of all UPHOLD the Wenton name.

He encouraged me to settle for nothing and question everything. I carry that message forward to my babies (Abi and Jack) every day.

In your name and the name of every Wenton who has travelled that path before you Uncle Arthur, I promise to do my very best to make you proud today, tomorrow and always.
Your presence may have left us but your inspiration, leadership and gentleness will continue to inspire us all for many generations to come.
Goodnight god bless uncle Arthur. (Give powie and cissie a big kiss and tell Bobbie and Terry to 'play nice' :) xxx

Arthur Wenton was a man I truly admired. From a young age I was influenced by his strength and political intelligence. There are not many men who have a coherent set of principles and who stick to them. I always enjoyed conversation with him and he will be very sorely missed.

Dad, your physical self has gone and that will leave a hole in my life that can't be filled. I'll miss our long and passionate conversations, I'll miss your intelligent talk. You loved being provocative in order to hear the arguments that came back and I'll miss that. You swam against the tide very often and encouraged us all to question. I'll still do that because of you. You fought for many causes and stood up for the community in which you lived. My children got to know you and they too learned from you that politics is personal. You knew so much about the world and you shared it with us, often having us cry with laughter at your escapades. I'll miss that. We should have had you write some down. They'd be a great read and there's another thing you loved and insisted upon - reading. I'll miss discussing our reads. My world is so much poorer without you in it Dad. Know that you were loved and will be greatly missed. X

I've no idea how to express with words how missed you'll be Grand, you've been a constant in my life & im happy you got to meet Evie & Nel...I just wish they could've known you as a younger man.
I wish they could've seen you speed skipping in the garden, and body balancing horizontally against the washing line post.
I wish they'd heard first hand your stories from abroad & listened as you argued with anyone who'd dare about religion & politics.
I wish they'd heard you play that guitar, and seen you jiving with Nan st family parties.
I'll miss seeing you sat with your feet up on the coffee table, watching Columbo & Quincey.
I''ll miss seeing you rolling your eyes at Nan for nagging you to eat.
I'll miss making your coffee with a drop of whiskey & 4 sugars
I'll miss seeing your hairbrush & Vaseline tub in the bathroom.
You've left a hole, I hope I can find enough love to fill it.
Sleep tight Grand
Love Always
Lou Jay Evie & Nel❤️
