I am so saddened to hear of the loss of the lovely Mr Parry. I was a pupil at Harry Carlton until 1998 and he taught me GCSE and AS Level Music. He truly was one of the nicest teachers in the school -always kind, always placid and despite the mischief we got up to sometimes, he never lost his temper. Not a bad bone in his body. I had a cry tonight when I found out this news. RIP Mr Parry and thank you for all you did for us. God bless x

The family would like to thank all of you who have taken the time to leave messages and contribute to Steve Parry's obituary page. Thank you also to those who were able to join us on Saturday - we were moved by the large number of people who obviously loved Steve and by the wonderful stories we heard. We have been touched by your many thoughtful comments and memories of Steve and are looking forward to having time to read them more closely over the coming days and weeks. Thank you once again.
John and Rosie Parry, Geoff and Janet Parry

I always remember Mr Parry was wonderfully positive and did a great job of teaching a subject he obviously loved to kids who often were too ignorant to appreciate his sincerity

Thank you Sir, I wish you peace.

Without Mr Parry I don't think I would have made it through my time at harry carlton. He was an amazing teacher. I always looked forward to music lessons they were so much fun. I remember sitting outside his classroom with my friends at lunch time waiting for him to let us go in and jam. He gave us somewhere to go and be ourselves in our difficult times and made us laugh more than any other teacher I can remember.

Mr Parry was my form tutor for 4 years. He was always supportive, even to a student who found the whole education process very difficult and who didn't excel at all. He always had a smile and encouragement for everyone. Taken far too early.

I remember him taking our music class to sing to the people in the old people home. We were singing and playing instruments. Half way through singing killing me softly a couple of the residents fell asleep, his face was a picture!!! He carried on though and on the way back to school we were all in tears laughing.
Oh and luckily they had just fallen asleep! :o)

I attended Harry Carlton school and mr parry was my teacher for many years, he guided me through GCSE music and a level music and each weekend I attended music school too. He helped me and many of my friends find school a safer place and gave up many lunchtimes to allow us into his room, away from the hurtful words of the other children. His passion for music rubbed off on me and I am forever grateful.
Thinking of all his family and friends. The service was wonderful, he had the most beautiful send off.
Until we meet again X

I was deeply saddened to hear this news. Mr Parry was an amazing kind man. He was such a passionate person. He was infinitely patient with my GCSE music class and I'll never forget everything he did for us all and those years we spent together at Harry Carlton.
My thoughts are with his family and friends. X

I had the privilege of working with Steve at Music School (2006 - 2012). Such a lovely man, who always had a smile for you. It didn't matter what ludicrous idea we came up with next, Steve never failed to be supportive, but just got on and helped us to see our madcap plans through. Whether surrounded by 300 9-year olds with instruments, a thrash metal band, a steel pan choir or a recorder group, I don't ever remember him losing his cool or his patience. He quietly meant a great deal to all of us and made a difference to the lives of hundreds of young people in Nottingham. We will miss him dearly.

I took music as an option at GCSE level and Steve was my teacher. I'll always remember his enthusiasm and kindness and making music lessons and music theory fun. If it wasn't for this I probably wouldn't have gone on to study music further at HND level and be teaching like I am now. I have a lot to thank Steve for. He was definitely inspirational when I first decided I want to make something out of music later in life.
