In loving memory of Joan Lilian Ridley who sadly passed away on 30th April 2016 after a long period of declining health.

Joan will be remembered with abundant love, and for the many wonderful aspects of her character, but she will especially be remembered with smiles and laughter. Everyone who knew Joan will delight in recalling her jouissance in telling (often ribald) jokes: the ability to make people laugh and spread infectious glee is one of the greatest gifts a person can have.

"When someone you lose becomes a memory, the memory becomes a treasure"

Joan requested that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the RSPCA and or Cancer Research. Anyone who wishes to do so, may donate easily by clicking on the relevant sidebar on this page. Many thanks

I will always remember Joan for her jokes. She had such a wicked sense of humour and loved to pull a newspaper cutting of jokes from her handbag to share with us. I'm sure that her cheeky smile will be missed by all who knew her.

  • Joan's jokes and wonderful sense of humour were legendary, but I also admired her endless compassion and kindness. She will certainly be missed by her friends and family

A Last Letter
Hi Joan,
I’d been well into my latest letter to you. It would have been all the usual stuff; the weather is getting warmer here, your Governments terrible (whose isn’t) , Lily and I are well , as are the extended family, and then some stories of the latest acheivements of the grandkids.
However before I got to mail it I heard of your passing.
Y’know I’ve been writing to you every month for a long time now after phoning every month for an even longer time. I used to write to Frank every month and when he died it just seemed natural to carry on regularly communicating with you. I do hope I haven’t been a nuisance. I sometimes figured when I called you may have been watching your favourite television programme but you never complained, although you did make me wait for ages while you searched for the remote to turn down the sound. I know I talked a lot and nagged you about your smoking, ‘not good for your health and it’ll stunt your growth’ , ha,ha. Whereupon you’d threaten to give me a punch on the nose for my cheek. Of course I was just hoping it was a pleasant interuption to your day and we’d have some chuckles.
So this is the last letter; thank you for being a wonderful sister in law, thank you for caring for my mother in her latter years, thank you for caring so much for my brother, and thank you for just being you. Lily and I and the boys are sure your happy now with Frank, together with all your friends who have moved on.
Love
Don and Lily
