I chose this reading as I felt it reflected many of the the principles dad lived his life by.
The world’s greatest need
A little kindness and a little less greed;
A little more giving and a little less need;
A little more smile and a little less frown;
A little less kicking a man when he’s down;
A little more ‘we’ and a little less ‘I’;
a little more laughs and a little less cry;
A little more flowers on the pathway of life;
And fewer on graves at the end of the strife.

In loving memory of Philip Mitchell who sadly passed away on 25th April 2016.
Phil was born on the 5th of July 1928 in Stepney East London . He was the eldest of Alice and Robert's six children and during the war he was evacuated with his younger brother Brian to the Forest of Dean in Gloucestershire. He often talked about his adventures in the Forest and this is probably where he developed his love for nature and exploring the outdoors. He recently told me he cycled from Gloucester to Weston Super Mare with his brother.
In 1947 Phil joined the RAF in National Service and was posted to Singapore . This was another huge adventure and the memories of the people he served with and places he went never left him.
Phil and his family later moved from Gloucester to Bournemouth where he met and married Ann in 1957. They met as members of the Christian Science church where they made many lifelong friends and the church remained central to their lives. Their daughter Jane was born in 1965 and Phil and Ann bought their first house in Winchcombe Gloucestershire in 1967. Phil worked in a hardware shop on the high street and after a few years the family moved back to Bournemouth so that Phil could start a new job in a larger building firm. He later became a builder's buyer for Cummings and Morrish in Poole.
The family moved into Oakwood Road in 1976 and enjoyed the huge garden and wonderful views across to the New Forest. Grandchildren Ben and Louis had great fun in the garden too when they visited in school holidays. Phil and Ann lived here for 37 years until Ann passed away in 2013. Phil then moved up to Nottingham to be near Jane and lived at Willowcroft care home.
