In loving memory of Percy Round who sadly passed away on 22nd April 2016. He died aged 88, after a long and full life.
He was named Percy (after one of his father’s brothers) Holcroft (his great grandmother’s maiden name).
He was born at his parents’ house, The Orchard, Belper and spent his early years there while his father was deputy head at Herbert Strutt school. He later moved to Wirksworth where his father was Headmaster, and lived in School house with his mother, father, and brother Ken.
He went to Birmingham University medical school where he qualified, as well as supporting Villa while there.
He did national service as an army doctor in Egypt and he and his contemporaries were much later awarded medals for their service.
Percy then worked for many years in General Practice, mostly in South Normanton.
He was ARC chairman of the local branch and his wife Pat was Secretary for a number of years. He also took up baking and computing when he retired and became very proficient in both. He belonged to the local Probus branch.
He married Pat Thompson in 1957, and she died in 2005. He is survived by daughters Helen and Sally, and grandchildren Anna, James, Clare, Lucy and Amy.
