In loving memory of Robert Norman Ross who sadly passed away on 8th April 2016, aged 79 years
Born on 8th Sept 1936 in Banchory, a village on the banks of the river Dee a few miles west of Aberdeen, Bob was the eldest son of Myra and Robert Ross. Bob grew up in Aberdeen and in his youth he was a choir boy and then altar server at St Andrew’s Cathedral.
At the age of 21, having completed his marine apprenticeship, Bob left home to work for a year in Malaya with a tin dredging company. On his return he was accepted by the British India Shipping Line and became a marine engineer in the Merchant Navy. It was on a special voyage during these years of seafaring that he met Janet, his wife to be. They were later married at St Andrew’s Cathedral.
After a time and following the arrival of their son Edward the family settled in Brownsover. Their home was a welcoming place for family, friends and local cats in need. While no longer on the high seas Bob maintained his love of boats and engineering by travelling the local canals on his restored river boat, and the local roads in his classic Rovers.
In retirement Bob again stretched his travelling legs spending many winters in South Africa and in later years with regular trips to Wales.
Bob died on 8th April 2016 at his home in Arbour Close in Rugby and is survived by his son Edward
