Max died after suffering from Ovarian cancer for 3 1/2 years . She died at home 5th April 2016 after saying her good byes to close friends and family. She had much more that she wanted to do in her life. She loved her career and was proud of her achievements and was greatly saddened that ill health forced her early retirement.

As a young person she was good at sport and both played hockey and swam at county level. Her front crawl was impressive! She liked the outdoors including scuba diving, sailing, walking and camping. Her favourite place was Killiechronnan and Loch na Keal on the Isle of Mull where she spent many summer holidays with family and friends. She managed to return there for a few days in the summer of 2015 for the last time.
Her life was changed by her daughter's love of horses. She had her own horses which she hacked and occasionally did dressage. Her support for Emily's riding was rewarded by a trip to the European 2* championships 2015 in Holland at which Emily represented Great Britain.
She had an amazing talent for spotting birds/mushrooms/whales/scallops on the sea bed/nudibranchs..... In spite of this ability she couldn't clean a car without leaving a dirty patch!
She loved her dogs especially walking them in the woods and by the sea. I will remember her sat on a rock by the sea in characteristic pose with her dog.
She is survived by her mother Jo(sephine), Sister Lynne, Husband Dennis and Daughters Hannah and Emily. It was a re-assurance to her that her daughters are both making good progress in life and both have loving partners. Hannah married to Scott Birdsall and Emily with partner Luke Walker. Before she died she instructed us not to waste our talents or give up on our dreams

Dear Max,

You touched our hearts with your strength of character and your determination to live life to the full, no matter the challenges.

It is difficult to appreciate you have gone but you will always carry on living in the hearts of your loved ones and those lucky enough to have met you.

Rest in peace, Max. No more pain.

Our thoughts are with your most precious family, your husband Dennis and your beloved daughters Hannah and Emily, left behind. May your love and courage comfort and lead them on this difficult journey.

The memories of the happy times spent in your company, especially last summer, will stay with me forever.

Love, Raymonde

Farewell my friend you're leaving,it's time for you to go
Your friendship was a blessing, and I will miss you so
We shared so many secrets, you brightened up my days
You brought me so much happiness
With your kind and loving ways
You lifted up my spirits when I was feeling blue
No matter what was happening you knew just what to do
Through all the ups and downs of life, the good times and the sad
Those experiences we shared were some of the best I ever had.

You will remain with me forever.

Memories of Max

Both Dennis and Max were trying to make a new life after a difficult time in their lives. Dennis had bought a house in Yarborough Road and was finding it difficult to make ends meet and decided to rent out a room, which Max took up.
I hadn’t met Max at this stage but it was clear that their different personalities worked well together. She told me that her previous relationship gave her low self-esteem, something that was never the case with Dennis.
I think our first meeting was at Harby in the bungalow that they had bought by the church. My visits at that time were rare because of the distance from Guildford and work and family commitments.
I recall the wedding reception at the Jews House in Lincoln where we all had a sit down meal in the ‘no-fuss’ fashion that they both wanted. A meeting of friends and no speeches!
I remember going along to support her at a hockey match but I cant recall where that was.
Although both David and Chloe came to visit at Harby, I think David made a strong bond with both Dennis and Max, probably because we were very centered on Chloe with her gymnastics and all that went with that. Chloe too had good reason to be very fond of them both because of the support they gave to her when she was ill. Giving her and us, a break. This was a wonderful gesture for which I remain grateful.
Although Max liked her home privacy she was always kind and accommodating to the family and me. I also have particular reason to thank her for the support and hospitality shown to Chloe, and therefore to the whole family, when she was ill. David has always been a great fan too.
My memories of Max are of her with her sleeves rolled up pushing a wheelbarrow full of horse muck or shoveling it up religiously in the field. It was an awakening when I saw her at Hannah’s wedding dressed in lovely pink with matching shoes etc and I think I rudely said that ‘she had scrubbed up well’ which I hope she took in good humor.
I have been looking through the old family albums and was reminded that Max had always ‘scrubbed up well’ it was just I think she felt comfortable in a casual setting and this was were we always saw her albeit that my photos tell a different story.
Max and Dennis raised two beautiful and accomplished daughters who are a credit to them both. I am sure it was a comfort that both daughters were at home at the end of her illness.
Max always offered kindness and wise counsel to me and was always great with David and Chloe. I will miss her.
