June Davey (22 Jun 1929 - 8 Apr 2016)

When I was 12 years of age my family, including my Nana and Giggig (as he was fondly known) emigrated to Australia leaving my Auntie June and her family back in England. Nana and Giggig returned to England several months later as they found it too hard settling in a new country and missed the rest of the family and their friends. On several occasions Mum and Dad returned to visit their family and Tony and I toured Scotland and England 10 years ago so I could introduce Tony to my relatives and friends and show him where I grew up. I remember fondly the few days we spent with Auntie June and Uncle Norman. The welcome we received was wonderful and we spent a few evenings reminiscing and laughing. Both my Mum and my Auntie June have a great sense of humour. I will miss our chats over the phone and Christmas and birthday cards. Our love and support to my cousins Janice and Mike and their families.

OI last saw my Aunty June in 2008 when my husband Mark and I stayed with her and Uncle Norman overnight as part of a European holiday. As tired travellers we were warmly welcomed by June or Aunty Pam as I called her...a bit of a joke between the two of us. Anyway, Aunty Pam treated us to a lovely spread she had prepared that day which included a delicious walnut cake. She had remembered the walnut cake I had enjoyed when I had last seen her back in 1976! The next morning just before leaving, there was a cake on my pillow all packed and ready to go...we savoured every slice of that walnut cake enjoying it for the next 5 days travelling around England! I will miss her quick and quirky sense of humour, mischievous smile but especially her warmth, thoughtfulness and beautiful nature.

June and I moved around Devon in our younger days as Mum and Dad were business people building up general stores and moving on. I remember well living in Pinhoe Road Exeter on two occasions, once during the 1942 air raids when the roof of the property was blown off by a land mine 60 metres away. All the family luckily were sleeping away each night at Starcross on the River Exe and only in Exeter during the day. John was very fond of June because she made him very welcome always and she became a great friend. Rest in peace dear sister.
