In loving memory of Kathleen Margaret Matthews who sadly passed away on 31st March 2016.
Kath was born 1930 to Mabel and George, oldest of three children who lived at Flewitt Street, St Anns - sister Pat, baby brother George. Unfortunately, we lost Pat in 2001. Kath and Pat are survived by Brother George and sister-in-law Vicky.
In her early years she met Jean Hutchinson (became Lamb) at primary school, to be best friends for over 70 years, known as Kate to Jean’s family
Went to work with Jean at Boots at 14 – Jean waited from her 14th birthday in May until August so they could start work together.
Jean waited for Kath to retire at 60 in 1991, her last job as a dinner lady at Becket school.
Kath had several holidays with Jean, Josie and Elsie, annual weekend trips to Blackpool, they went further afield to Malta, Spain, Dublin, Amsterdam to name a few. Friday lunchtime’s regular meeting at the Toll Bar pub on Tollhouse Hill, nights out in Yates’.
Lost Jean last year
She met and loved Doug, Jean's elder brother and his children Ros and Gerald, Steve, Margaret, Paul, Jane – lots of laughs, tears, holidays on the boat and in the caravans, abroad with Doug and then later family holidays and Christmas Days. She loved them all, she was their confidante when they needed a friend and although she lost Doug in 1987, all of the kids supported, loved and cared for her right to the end.
Daughter Jayne, son in law Andy Four beautiful grandchildren, Siobhan, Kathryn, Chloe and Matthew who she was immensely proud of – she loved looking after the children in school holidays:
Bingo in the common room for Siobhan and Kathryn at Welland Court and visits to Stonebridge City Farm to see the animals when she was more active.
Trips to Wise Owl to pick up little toys for Matthew and Chloe and cheeky lifts on her mobility scooter when she became less active.
Favourite meals with Mamma were pizza and chips, hot dogs and noodles, chicken pie and mash. Ralph the dog looked forward to his Sunday lunches of faggots, mash and veg.
Favourite songs she used to sing to the children ‘Henery the Eigth I am’ ‘’Daisy Daisy’ Go to sleep my baby, close your pretty eyes’
Everywhere Kath lived, she had good friends and neighbours, John and Maureen, Pauline and Bill at Summerwood Lane in Clifton, lots of friends at Welland Court and more recently Sandra, Pete and Sheila at Moreland Court.
