Alan was born on 17th August 1939 to Bernard and Dorothy. He was their first born and he was followed by brother Geoff, sister Joyce Marie who would sadly pass away aged 10 months from Pneumonia. Then another little sister came, Susan.
Alan went on to work as a miner, with a brief spell working for Raleigh and then back he went down the pit. Alan would go on to be a Deputy and was always very proud of his working history at the pits. After he finished mining he went on to work as a Caretaker for the Council, a job he thoroughly loved and enjoyed. I have been informed that he was a highly regarded member of staff.
He married Pauline Ann Stutchfield on 1st November 1958. They went on to live at Athorpe Grove in Basford where they had their first child a son Gary Alan on 24th April 1959 then followed by brother Kevin Paul on May 2nd 1961. Tragically Kevin passed away as a young toddler. Alan and Pauline then moved to Fenwick Close where more children would follow. Wayne Andrew on 10th September 1963, Mandy Jane February 2nd 1965 and lastly Dean 10th December 1967.
The family then moved onto Tewkesbury Drive in Basford and lastly to Rugby Close.
Grandchildren soon started to come with Gary marrying in 1980 and having the first grandchild later that year a daughter Kelly Marie. He would then go on to have 2 sons Jack in 1991 and Charlie on Christmas Day 1997.
Wayne would go on to have 3 daughters, Laura in 1985, Emma in 1991 and Jodie in 1993. Wayne married in 1988.
Mandy gave him 5 grandchildren, 4 sons and 1 daughter. Nicholas in 1982, Warren in 1985, Kisha 1987, Jayden 1993 and Leo in 2004.
Dean also gave Alan 2 grandchildren, a daughter Charlotte in 1993 and son Callum in 1998.
Alan was also an Uncle to his brother Geoffs 5 children and Susan's 3 daughters.
Over the years Alan enjoyed socialising with family and lifelong friends Barry and Mick. He loved a good family party and was the life and soul, laughing and joking. He also enjoyed many family holidays, and in recent years has shared his life with partner Antoinette. They shared a love for travelling with the caravan and walking their beloved dog Holly. They shared interests through their work and going on some wonderful holidays. Antoinette had 2 daughters and grandchildren and he was very fond of these as they were of him.
He was still active and had just spent time with family on a Caribbean Cruise and still continued his job for the Council part time.
Alan leaves behind his 4 children and 13 grandchildren. He has had 22 great grandchildren and 2 more due to be born soon.
Rest In Peace x
