In loving memory of Mary White who sadly passed away on 16th March 2016
Manchester born girl Mary Christie, the youngest daughter and one of eight children, moved to Beeston in Nottingham with her family including Mum Gertrude, Dad Walter and her brothers and sisters: Gladys, Jessie, Philis, George, Dougie, Marys' twin brother Frank and Ken.
Mary worked as a pattern cutter and made all her own clothes and in the coming years clothes for her children. Which we were not happy about but that's another tale.
Mary was a very shy woman, however she had a great sense of humour and was very quick witted. She was a kind and caring person and had lots of friends.
In her early twenties she met and fell in love with a handsome chap called Colin White at the Slipper in West Bridgford. Within just 6 weeks, 3rd August 1950, they were married at the registry office. Unfortunately it took 13 years before they became parents but eventually they were blessed with two children, firstly with a baby girl, Amanda, and a couple of years later a son, Craig. A happy family they were. Her family were very important to her.
Unfortunately, after 31 years of marriage, in 1981, Colin was taken from Mary dying from Cancer. Colin died in Mary's arms. She was devastated. He was her husband, her friend, her first and only love, her rock.
A short while after Colin's death Mary met a group of people from a local church group called The Angel Green Fellowship. She quickly made friends and spent many years within the church group - working with the homeless and elderly doing good deeds where she was able. She went on numerous church retreats to Wales where she would always bring laughter and tears. She had many many happy years with the Fellowship.
In her late 70's Mary developed Vascular Dementia and this terrible illness took it's toll on her. With the help of her family and friends she was able live independently for several years. Eventually Mary had to move into specialist care and for the last few years of her life she lived at Church Farm at Skylarks in West Bridgford. She was well loved and very much a cheeky character. Many funny stories have been told about her exploits. She will be missed there.
She leaves behind her many friends and family Amanda, Miles, Josh, and Craig, Sarita, Charlie and Leo who will miss her dearly too.
She is gone but she will never, ever, be forgotten by those that knew and loved Mary.
Rest in Peace Mum xxx
