Our beloved mother Doreen Mavis King passed away at just gone noon on Wednesday 2nd March at University Hospital, Walsgrave,Coventry. Wife of Michael, mother of Linda and Paul, grand and great grandmother to Bonnie, Niall, Marlie and the late Scott. Doreen had been taken into care some days earlier with pneumonia and then suffered a heart attack from which she was unable to recover.

One of five children Doreen Baker was born September 13th 1931 and would always claim she was 'a proud Coventry kid' who witnessed the cities destruction during the blitz attacks of WW2 and was part of its regeneration over the next decades where she met, fell in love with and married her life long partner Michael in 1951. Daughter Linda was soon born as along with many other couples of their generation Doreen and Mick slowly built a home and life for themselves and their family through hard work and perspiration. As the 60's arrived a new son Paul along with Sooty, the first in a never ending circle of pet dogs, settled into the family home in Farren Road Wyken.
A working mum, Doreen held a variety jobs, from cleaner to cook, barmaid plus her personal favourite and final employment as a 'lollipop lady'.

As her last wishes demonstrate Doreen was a passionate animal lover and she spent many hours walking the fields of the town with her dogs where she was to also meet and make many life long friends.
Grand children Bonnie and Scott added extra joy in the 70's and inevitably great grand children were to follow with Niall in 1995 and then as as the new century began their grandson Marlie and Paul's marriage to Gilly adding more new family members with Milly, Louis, Sophie and Rebecca completed her and Michaels happiness.

A true home bird Doreen was always happiest in her garden or knitting up a storm something she was active in to the very end.

Despite the pain and struggles of her early years our mother was always happy and thankful towards the later part of her life at how she and Michael had won through the obstacles to obtain a comfortable and contended life for themselves along with a family she was proud of and by whom she was very loved.

Her funeral is to take place Thursday March 17th Lentons Lane Cemetery at 11am. Family flowers only please, it is Doreen's preference that donations be placed in lieu of flowers with her preferred animal charity the PDSA. A donations box will be available on the day, you can click the charity link on this site or cheques maybe sent care of The Co-operative Funeralcare. 184 Ansty Road, Coventry, CV2 3EX

Thank you for your love, for your stewardship, companionship and understanding.
Thank you for your care and patience, your sacrifice and for everything you gave with out condition.
You introduced me to the world and without you nothing I know or have would ever have come to be. So although I'm sad you had to leave I'm also on your behalf happy that your suffering was kept to its minimum and that as you left us it was in the knowledge that those you touched were with you and there with love.
Rest in peace mum.
