Lynn Tongue was born on Wednesday 29 January in Stockport, Greater Manchester, the only child of Harold and Doris Burgess. After a happy childhood, she met and married her first husband, Jack Priestnall, who she was close friends with and had known most of her life. Lynn and Jack had two sons, Anthony who was born on 30 December 1969, and Christopher who was born on 18 March 1971. Unfortunately Lynn and Jack did not stay married, but always remained great fiends, and saw each other many times over the years.
After moving to Tamworth, Staffordshire, Lynn met local businessman Michael Tongue, they were soon married and had a son, Richard Tongue who was born on 11 January 1980. Mike also had two sons from a previous marriage, Robert and Ian, who were always part of the family, and all the boys enjoyed the many family outings and holidays that they shared.
Lynn and Mike enjoyed a fantastic social life and were part of Tamworth’s Rotary and Inner Wheel Clubs, where they had many dear friends who will remember the countless social gatherings and parties that they enjoyed. Lynn and Mike were together for over 20 years before he sadly passed away in August 2000 after suffering a heart attack.
After losing her second husband, Lynn ensured that she made the best out of every situation, and gave her time to numerous charities and organisations, and cared for many people in need. Lynn was never a person to let things get her down; instead she put all her energies into helping other people. Through her various voluntary activities Lynn met many people from all walks of life, and made long lasting friendships with them all.
All of her sons have found love and happiness with their partners, and Lynn has grandchildren from Anthony and Laurie, Richard and Emma and Ian and Maria, who she adored and made the focus of her life. Louie, Andrew, Abileigh and Ella all adored their Nanna, and have endless happy memories of the fun times that they shared with their Nanna Lynn.
Lynn was a big part of many people’s lives; she was a strong character who knew what she wanted, and was always clever enough to know how to get it! She had an amazing sense of fun and has laughed her way though her life, and brightened up everyone else’s on the way. The last few years of her life were sadly laden with pain from various ailments, but she never let this get in the way of making sure she brought a ray of sunshine into people’s lives.
A mother and grandmother adored by her children and grandchildren, Lynn will be deeply missed, leaving an enormous gap in both her family and friends lives. She is irreplaceable and will never be forgotten, but will always be remembered for her humour and caring and giving nature.
