PS Kathy Evans left a cheque for St Christopher's in memory of Bob yesterday, but Val and I weren't sure who this is. Anyone who knows, please get in touch with us as her cheque was generous. x

Thank you everybody for coming to see Bob off on the next leg of his journey yesterday. Albins did us proud and Val, Mark, Rory and I were really pleased with the service. It was just how Bob would have wanted it to be. My cousin Julian did a fabulous reading and Father Paul did the honours with my eulogy, even with a bit of swearing thrown in. It was so nice to catch up with everyone at the County Arms afterwards. I am sure Bob would be proud. Thanks to everyone who gave cheque donations for St. Christopher's yesterday. We are so touched by everyone's kindness and love. XXX

Thanks to everyone for your lovely messages and generous donations so far. St Christopher's does such fantastic work caring for people in their final days and even though Bob was only in the hospice for one day, the staff were amazing, caring and made things a lot easier for me and Val to cope with at such a difficult time. It is so nice to see some lovely photos, from the past and present, on this website. Val, Mark, Rory and I are so grateful to everyone who has taken the time to share some memories as well as donate to a great cause. THANK YOU. xxxx

Dear Bob, it's Saturday and the horse racing is on the television. Your first race comes on and you say to me: "Don't say anything to me while the race is on." But I always said something to you. I know I said some silly things and you used to roll your eyes at me in despair sometimes, but I expect you had a chuckle as well. Someone once said to me: "You and Bob are always together." So what if we were.

When Lauren was born you were so protective of her, the same as you were with Rory, and I love you forever for that. And you were always there for me no matter what.

I love you so much Bob. I will see you again one day.

We met Bob a number of times and always remember his cheery, smiley ways. We even got a few tips on the horses once. He was one of the few people who didn't think it odd if we had a vino at Mark and Loz's at 10am on a Saturday morning and both he and Val were known to join in with a whisky! He was a lovely guy and he will be missed (and remembered) by his family and friends. xx

To our brother-in-law, Bob. You'll be sorely missed. Great fun, kind, very knowledgeable, and a witty raconteur. All together a great bloke.

My Big Brother and the attack of the killer cows!

As we have seen on here Bob and fishing are a recurring theme so I thought I would tell the story of when Bob and I were on a fishing trip and Bob decided we would take a short cut across a field full of very large cows. I pointed out that there were rather a lot of them and I wasn’t too happy about it.
Don’t worry said Bob, they are harmless. So off we set treading carefully to avoid the many large cowpats that were dotted liberally around the field.
We were about halfway across when it became very apparent that the herd were gradually closing in on us!
We carried on regardless and so did the cows, getting closer all the time. I don’t know who was the most scared a 10 year old me or my big brother Bob!
Tel..Tel... Dont look them in the eyes and whatever you do don’t run said Bob passing me one of the sheathed fishing rods he was carrying. If they get any closer use this.
On we marched towards the river bank like two later day south London D’Artagnans cutting and thrusting the air whenever we thought the cows were getting too close.
Needless to say we did make it across safely in the end but were too busy watching the cows to look where we were putting our feet! The resultant mess on our shoes and trouser legs was not a pretty sight or smell!!

Bob, I told you what a great brother you were and how much I loved you when we hugged and kissed on the night you left us and that Mummy and Daddy would be waiting for you at the journeys end.
I know you are with them now. Give them a big hug and kiss from me and when I finally come to join you make mine a large one!! Love you Bruv xx

Val/Lauren.
Words cant express how sorry I feel for you to have lost a Husband and Dad like Bob. He truly was a one off.

Rory.
Bobba loved you very much, I remember how excited and proud he was when he called me to tell me you had been born.
I didnt know either of my Grandads, so cherish the times you had with him and remember fondly all of the great times you had together, but most of all be thankful he didn’t take you on a shortcut through a field of KILLER Cows!!

Bob, Val and Lauren at our wedding on 10 September 1983. You can just see Sandra, Len and Debbie there as well. Bob's Mum and Dad came, but the photos are not clear enough. Rest in Peace Bob, you were the funniest bloke ever.

I only met Bob once or twice but, as a fellow Londoner, I immediately recognised all of the qualities of that great city in him - strength of character, resilience, a true love of home and family, an earthy sense of humour and a healthy suspicion of anyone claiming to be 'in authority'!

Luckily his daughter Lauren shares all of these traits and I think I've already seen more than a few of them in young Rory so the genes go on.

Paul and I are sending you all of our love at this sad time.

Claire. x

Although I only met Bob a few times I feel like I knew him well through one of my very best friends - his daughter Lauren. She adored her dad and speaks of him so often. She takes after him in many ways and he will at least live on through her :)

It's a relief that Bob's suffering is over but I am so sorry the whole family has lost a man they truly treasured. My thoughts are with you all xxx
