In loving memory of Maureen Patricia O'Connor who sadly passed away on 18th February 2016
In the early hours of Thursday 18th February, our lives were changed forever. Our devoted Wife and Mum passed away peacefully after a short battle with Cancer. We never had the chance to say a proper goodbye, instead all that we could do was re-assure her that she wasn't alone, and hold her hand through her darkest hour.
Maureen was strong beyond belief, she showed no signs of suffering, and didn't complain of pain, even at the very end. She was always there for her family at the drop of hat, nothing was too much effort, and she was excited for the happy times that were ahead this year. We all described her as the kindest, most caring person that anyone knew. She upheld the strongest of family values, something we can all learn from her. She was one of a kind and can never be replaced.
This made it even harder when we were told the words nobody should ever have to hear. "I'm sorry but there is no hope"...'I'm afraid the cancer is untreatable"....
But in a way, we were the lucky ones. Maureen didn't suffer, she didn't endure months of dehabilitatiing treatment and the pressure on immediate family that cancer treatment creates. I've seen that. Cancer is a cruel disease and many other like our beloved Maureen, have been struck down with it. Too many. A small donation to Marie Curie can help make a difference. They care for patients in their final stages of Cancer and treat them like special people, people with dignity, have an existence, exactly as the nurses that treated mum did.
If you would rather donate than send funeral flowers, just a small amount CAN help make a difference. Maybe in our lifetimes this awful disease can be eradicated once and for all....with all our love....John & James O'Connor xx
