In loving memory of Denise Margaret Moran who sadly passed away on 15th January 2016, surrounded by her loving family, at the City Hospital, aged just 67. Born Denise Margaret Joad in Overbury on November 2nd, 1948, Denise, the daughter of a gamekeeper, grew up with her elder brother, Derrick, in many hilariously named places in Sussex – e.g. the pig-themed years of living in Swillage, then Pigdown – where she read, adventured, and developed a love of the outdoors. Later, as a student in London, Denise became active politically, making many lifelong friends along the way. Denise trained as a teacher at Eastbourne College of Education, and dedicated her life to helping others. In 1981, whilst on holiday to Crete, Denise met Denzil Moran, who she married just 11 months later – the love of her life. The couple settled in Nottingham where they had Patrick, in 1985, and liked him so much they had another, Alex, in 1987. A wonderfully loving mother and wife, Denise gave her boys the happiest childhood imaginable. After both Patrick and Alex went south to University, Denise and Denzil began a well-deserved retirement, travelling as much as they could, and in 2011 went to Seattle to see Alex married to their daughter in law, Bonnie. In their retirement Denise and Denzil were constantly out and about seeing bands and plays, and had many joyful evenings with friends. Sadly, in January of 2016, Denise was taken swiftly, peacefully, and horribly by the cancer she was diagnosed with in 2000. As a family we would like to thank the amazing staff at the City Hospital, especially the Fraser Ward nurses. Should friends desire, memorial contributions in Denise's name may be sent directly to the City Hospital Oncology Department. The funeral will be held at Wilford Hill Crematorium, at 2:20pm, and a celebration of her life will then happen at the Beeches Hotel from 3:30pm onwards.
