In loving memory of Iain Macleod who sadly passed away on 13th January 2016
Iain Macleod, 77, died Wednesday 13th January 2016, peacefully at home with family present. During his year-long battle with cancer, he remained cheerful and largely positive, enjoying the company of his loved ones. Iain leaves behind his wife of 56 years, Elizabeth (Betty); Sisters, June and Hazel; Sons, Michael, Iain, Bruce and Duncan, daughter, Fiona; their wives and husband; a niece and nephew; eleven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many good friends.
Iain, affectionately known as ‘Jock’s Wee Laddie’, spent his formative years in Corby. His early pastime of cycling forged lifelong friendships, chiefly amongst the founders of the Rockingham Forest Wheelers, which first met in a workers hut in his Dad’s garden. He learned to play Harmonica and Bagpipes as a youngster and was Pipe Major with Corby Boys Brigade.
His working life began at the age of fifteen taking an apprenticeship in one of the few remaining coachbuilding firms; AE Smith and Son of Kettering. He served in the RAF being called up for national service where he met Betty, his wife for 56 years. He trained as an instrument maker following national service which gave him a great eye for detail and helped to refine his skills. He started his own business in 1976 specialising in the restoration of Jaguar XK bodies. Bought his first property in 1979. Built his own workshop and established a reputation for excellence in his work.
In later years he enjoyed walking, singing, playing a number of musical instruments and especially, socialising. His parties at Gedney Hill are legendary!
His legacy is significant; having raised a family of five children, started his own business, built and restored countless Jaguar XK bodies and trained students from around the globe in their hundreds in his craft. He also played his part in the formation of over 600 copper petals for the London Olympics cauldrons.
He was a sportsman, a musician, a poet, storyteller, inventor and craftsman of the highest calibre. A friend to all, without prejudice or favour.
A funeral service will be held at St. John the Baptist Church, Werrington, Peterborough PE4 6RT on Friday 29th January at 10am. All welcome. Family flowers only please. Donations to MacMillan via www.justgiving.com/IainMacleodMemorial/
