Sue is the late daughter to Tom and Nancy, mother to Mary and grandmother to Freja. She sadly passed away on 21st January 2016 following a number of challenges over the past few years that she dealt with with both grace and dignity.
Sue was born and grew up in Alfreton, often spending time in Suffolk with her Grandma and Auntie Lilian in her earlier years before going on to study at Swanwick Hall Grammar School. She went on to study Maths at Westfield College in Hampstead. The first to go to University from the family, let alone being the first female, it was a very proud moment for all. She went on to be a teacher specialising in maths but also teaching science early in her career and later going on to be a careers advisor too. She later left teaching to go on to forge a successful career within HR and Equal Opportunities for both The Boots Group and HMRC. After she retired she retrained as a therapist and thoroughly enjoyed helping people relax and feel good. She was also very active politically throughout her life being both a Town Councillor in Alfreton as well as the first Mayor of Alfreton before taking a break and returning to serve South Normanton over the past few years on Bolsover District Council.
She loved music, both listening to it and singing with the choir herself, as well as being a keen Derby County supporter and season ticket holder - which provided many an hour of both pleasure and pain in equal measure! Travel was also a keen interest and she continued to do this as much as possible whilst encouraging others to go and explore the world too. She adored Roar, our over-enthusiastic, one-eyed, geriatric Leonberger but her greatest love and pride of all was Freja, her granddaughter, and Freja will, undoubtedly, miss Grandma growing up but will remember her influence as she does.
Sue will be sadly missed but, I can say with the utmost confidence, would not want people to be sad and upset but would much prefer them to remember the many good times and celebrate them.
