In loving memory of Richard Le Gros Cass who sadly passed away on 10th January 2016.

Richard (Dick) Le Gros Cass was born in Ilford, Essex in 1930. He attended Buckhurst Hill High School during the war and had fond memories of watching the dog fights between the English and Germans fighter planes, gazing up in schoolboy wonder and collecting pieces of shrapnel completely oblivious of any danger he might be in.

Sadly his older brother Jeremy who was in the RAF lost his life during a raid and he never really got over the loss.

After National Service - mostly spent in Germany - he joined a cycling club where he entered races, time trials and marathons and won several medals. He was also a trad. Jazz fan and he met Pauline at the Cooks Ferry Inn, Edmonton where George Melly performed. They married in 1961 and had two loving children: Nigel and Leah; and three grandsons: Reuben, Jake and Archie.

Work took him to Wales in 1971, living in Llandogo in the Wye Valley before moving to the beautiful Market Town of Monmouth in 1978.

Dick sold tickets for Monmouth Community play Bordertown and became interested in amateur dramatics, joining the Off Centre Theatre shortly afterwards. Although not a great actor, his enthusiasm procured him roles in several of their productions. He also made many good friends who remained so for the rest of his life.

He became Chairman of the Conservative Assn. for Monmouth and District and later became County Councillor for Osbaston. He cared for Monmouth with a passion.

Due to ill health Dick and Pauline reluctantly left Monmouth and moved to Cheltenham in 2013 to be near their daughter Leah who would help with his care.

Dick passed away on 10th January 2016.
