In loving memory of Terence Whatton who sadly passed away on 11th January 2016.
Terence Whatton was born in the small village of New Westwood in Nottinghamshire. An only child of Ellen and Harry Whatton he was brought up during the war years. He did not see a banana until he was fourteen! He attended Jacksdale Primary school and then moved up to Selston Matthew Holland Secondary School, where he was a member of the school football team. His love of football continued for the rest of his life. Loving nothing more than cheering on the side lines for his grandsons and granddaughter. After school he completed his national service in the army and afterwards worked in the coal mines. He worked in a variety of jobs including in the shipyards and engineering factories. He finished his working life as a van driver. A job he enjoyed as he liked traveling and meeting people.
He married Pearl Minchell and they had four children, three boys and a girl. Bringing the boys ( Gary, Trevor and Geoffrey) up in Newcastle and then a move to Newark. In later years they moved back to the area where he was born Selston/New Westwood where the family which by this time included a daughter Claire. Terry was a life long fan of jazz music, and big band music. He attended local live music performances every week. Actually he liked most things American, music , fashion, cars and films . He visited New York at the age of 78 with his granddaughter Jessica and loved it! He travelled to many countries which he enjoyed but was just as happy with a day in Bakewell or Cromford. His life long passions were family, faith, forest, food and music. He attended church every Sunday and big band every Tuesday. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends and the wider community.
