Rachel Martin High (7 Jul 1923 - 28 Dec 2015)

In loving memory of Rachel Martin High who sadly passed away on 28th December 2015

Rachel, known in the family as either Mum or Rita was born in Lisburn N.Ireland and married Arthur there at the age of 18, in 1941 before having her first child Barbara in 1942. Arthur went off to join the 'Desert Rats' in N.Africa..
On his return, Mum has two sons, Douglas and Desmond. Life was not always easy for the couple. But their demands were few and they always seemed to get by.
Ill health featured highly in their lives. Arthur was a chronic asthmatic. His mother needed twice daily insulin injections for diabetes, daughter Barbara required years of hospitalisation for a deformed hip joint and in the 1990's Arthur was struck by many disabling strokes leading to his death in 1997.
From the late 1979's Mums own health went downhill and by 2000 she was nearing careers to support Barbara & Des in their efforts. By 2013 she required more help than could be given an home and so went into the Robert Bean Care Home.
In March 2015 she was admitted to Medway hospital and released to Friston House Nursing home the day after her 92nd birthday in July where she stayed till her death in December 2015.
