I first met Nigel when we were both twenty-somethings teaching English overseas back in the 1980s. Since those youthful days we always kept in touch, no matter in what far-flung parts of the world we found ourselves, and last autumn I had the pleasure of visiting him in his new abode in his native Kent. We always found so much to talk about - Nigel had a keen intellect, a wealth of knowledge amassed from years of globe-trotting and a wide range of interests. But above all he was interested in people.

We still have the soft toy reindeer he gave my (now adult) children when they were young - I shall always think fondly of Nigel when I look at Rudolph sitting on our bookshelf. RIP, dear friend. Will miss you

I worked with Nigel in China where we butted heads writing assessments and did some good work together. Last summer our paths crossed again and he told about his life and plans for the future... I was looking forward to catching up again in a couple of months. Very sad news, taken far too soon! RIP friend.

I was also part of Nigel's game team, and I was also shocked to hear he passed away. He could always keep the conversation going, he would motivate us to try our best at all times, and he was all around an excellent leader.
You will be missed, Nigel. Rest in Peace!

Nigel was an upstanding, kind and compassionate man. I always enjoyed the “late night” conversations we had. They were “late night” because of our time difference. As a fellow educator, Nigel and I would often talk about our jobs. Our commonality was that we both taught English language learners.

Nigel, I will miss our discussions about education, history, language and social/political issues. I know we didn’t always see eye to eye, but we respected each other and our respective views. You were the light the world needs. Every heart beats differently, but every heart needs love.

Nigel spread a lot of love, joy, compassion and kindness all around the world. That is quite the accomplishment. His family, friends, and students will never forget him.

My deepest condolences to everyone touched by Nigel’s bright light of life. Rest in peace Nigel. You are missed my friend. 🌸

I ‘met’ Nigel as he was leader of our online team game. It is so sad to hear that he has passed on so young. We are an online game, team of about 20 people and we will all miss his happy optimism, his knowledgeable insight and calm teaching manner. We all have learnt so much from him and will sorely miss him. I am grateful to have known his lovely nature. From the Kings of England.

Shocked to hear of the sad loss of Nigel at such a young age. I went all the way through primary and secondary school with him and shared many interests such as running and chess. I remember he came to the Christmas party in Tonbridge with me in 1986 where I met my future wife. I can still see him there dancing. A sad loss - rest in peace old friend.
