It is with deep sorrow that we say goodbye to Dorie Morinan who, at the age of 98, concluded her remarkable journey and reunited with the family she lost far too soon.
Dorie’s life unfolded like an epic story, filled with courage, love, and resilience. During the Second World War, when Hitler's bombs threatened Glasgow, her widowed mother courageously boarded the last passenger ship out of the UK with her two young daughters, seeking refuge in Australia. Dorie spent her teenage years on a sheep station in the Outback before moving to Brisbane, where she met Eric, a Welsh merchant navy officer. Their love blossomed, leading to a proposal and a new chapter together in Cardiff, where they married.
At 40, with three young children at home, Dorie pursued her lifelong dream by returning to school to earn her teacher’s certificate. She went on to become a much-admired and beloved primary teacher, touching the lives of many over the next 20 years.
Dorie’s boundless zest for life, insatiable curiosity about the world, and love of the sea were hallmarks of her character. But it was her remarkable faith that carried her through the many challenges in her life, particularly the loss of her husband, son and youngest daughter.
Dorie is survived by her Canadian daughter, Jill; granddaughters Thea and Michaela; grandsons Ciaran and Gareth; and her great-grandson Finlay. Deeply cherished by all who knew her, Dorie’s memory will forever be treasured. Her family finds peace in knowing she is now reunited with loved ones in heaven.
