In loving memory of John Tombs who sadly passed away on 4th March 2025

Not many people knew that John was not only my Godfather, he was my uncle and he was the deputy head when I was a Greensward School. I wasn’t the best behaved pupil when I was there and I gave him hell. He was the only one who truly knew and understood me and knew what I was going through at that time… I took the punishment he dealt… we’d smile… and we never let it affect our love and mutual respect we had for one other. Uncle John you were an amazing man, who
I always looked up to, admired and respected. I emigrated to Australia in 2001 and sadly hadn’t seen John in 18 years. R.I.P. Uncle John, rest in
Love, until we meet next time, much love, Nicola xx

John was acting Head when I started teaching at Greensward and he was always a class act. He gave so much to the school and the community and will be missed.

I was very sorry to hear that John has died. We worked together for many years at Greensward School in Hockley, where he was Deputy Head as well as being a superb teacher of French. There will be many former pupils who have fond memories of him. My condolences go to his friends and family.

So sad to hear that John had died. I had not seen him for many years, but fondly remember the 25 years that we worked together at Greensward school in Hockley.
My deepest condolences to his family and friends.
John Heys.
