In loving memory of Barbara Millett who sadly passed away on 6th December 2015
Barbara was born in India as her father was in the Army she was the oldest of three and had two brothers Harry and Donald both of whom are now deceased. She and her brothers were quite close in age and they spent most of their childhood in India they also had spells in the UK in Welwyn where Barbara first went to school. She and the two boys were in boarding school in India during the war. Barbara would have liked to be a Doctor but was unfortunately discouraged by her parents. She went into nursing when she left school, but soon met and married Terry, who was also in the army at the time just after the war finished.
Barbara had three children Margaret who was born in India, just before partition. Michael born in the UK and Alison who was born in Malaysia and Terry had been posted out there.
While in Malaysia Barbara was busy with trying to help the local women and children, she formed a WI so they could learn some skills and started Guides and Brownies for the younger girls.
I think Babara found it hard returning to the UK the life in Malaysia was not healthy for children and she did not want the children to attend boarding school as she had done.
So after an exciting and eventful life and still in her twenties she settchurchled down to a more humdrum existence.
She was a gregarious person and made lots of friends loved going to Church and all the associated activites.
She went to Australia a few times to see her youngest daughter, Alison who went out there when she first got married.
On the whole she had a happy life but she still regretted not becoming a Doctor!!
