Cora Crewe (3 Jan 1932 - 15 Feb 2025)

In Loving Memory of Cora who sadly passed away on 15th February 2025

Cora was born in Chester on 3 January 1932, the third daughter, after Joan and Margaret, of Roy and Carrie Gaskell. At the age of 21 she married her childhood sweetheart Allen Crewe and they remained together until he passed away in 2007. She was a loyal and supportive wife, uprooting the family from their Chester home for a short stint in South Africa, where Allen was involved in property development. On return they relocated to Send and then Guildford, and following another move, this time to Edinburgh, they finally settled in Liphook. Her first great love was dancing, and she had hoped to make it her career. Thanks to knee surgery, it was not to be, and so she devoted her considerable energies to her children, Sarah and Simon, and to her friends. Every Sunday morning was devoted to catch-up calls with her life-long friends Jose and Audrey. She was also a loving aunt to Deborah, Caroline and Nicholas and god-mother to Katie, as well as a good neighbour. Although she left school at 14, she was remarkably well-informed, an avid reader and latter-day Kindle convert! She was a great cook, a wonderful, if sometimes relentless hostess (are you SURE you have had enough?) and a keen gardener. She also loved her pets, miniature dachshund Polly, Gordon setter Ben, springer spaniel Barney and latterly her adopted cat, another Polly.
