In loving memory of Varrie Adamson who sadly passed away on 10th February 2025.

Varrie was born in Stetchford, Birmingham, the eldest of four boys, to Mary Ann and John Varrie Adamson on 29th March 1941.
Varrie grew up with his brothers, Alistair, Malcolm and Wallace in Birmingham. He passed his grammar school entry exams and went to Saltly Grammar School.
His professional life started in 1957, when Varrie was 16 years old. Varrie worked as a junior audit clerk for Lancaster Ridgeway and quickly gained promotions, working at Jewkes and Co, and then London Aluminium Company as an internal audit clerk. Some of this work involved travelling to undertake audits. Varrie liked working with numbers and his eye for detail made him perfect at these roles.
He met his wife Joan in 1961, on her 17th Birthday. Varrie proposed to her one week later and despite people saying it wouldn’t last Joan and Varrie were together over 63 years, celebrating their Diamond Wedding Anniversary together in 2023.
Varrie’s successful professional life was mirrored by his happy family life as sons Stephen and then Mark arrived to complete their family.
Varrie continued to be promoted at work and in 1983 Varrie set up his own business, running the Halifax Building Society with Joan in St Annes. This was perhaps Varries favourite role!

Helping people and making a positive difference to his community was always important to Varrie.
Varrie's faith has also been important to him. What started as an invitation from his Manager at Scottish Mutual to go a for a lunch of free soup and bread ended up with a deep and lifelong faith. Varrie played an active role in firstly managing the finances and bookkeeping of his church and then undertook the role of steward, welcoming people into the church, running a home group, leading prayers and singing with friends from the church and supporting the development of several charities.
At times Varries health was poor. He was first diagnosed with angina in 1979 and underwent a triple bypass in 1987 at St Bartholemews in London. He had a subsequent double bypass in ‘96 and further angioplasty and a stent fitted in 2001. These health reasons were contributors to his retirement in 1991. e.

The last few years were challenging at times for Varrie. His health deteriorated and he spent more time than wanted in hospital or medical appointments. During those times he always told us that he wanted to go home and be with Joan, and that the hospital food wasn’t a patch on Joans home cooking, especially her stew.
