It is with great sadness that the family of Nelum Peries announces her passing after a long battle with cancer, on January 28th 2025, at the age of 71. Nelum will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Simon (Rex), her sons Noel and Andrew, daughter in law Marilu and her two beloved grandchildren, Lois and Mabel. Alongside her siblings Genevieve, Kavan and the late Laxshman (Lucky), and her beloved nephews Kenneth, Nuvan, Ryan, Jerome and Adrian, and niece Pioma. Nelum will be greatly missed by all her family and friends.

Born in Wattala, Sri Lanka, Nelum moved to East London in 1972. She worked for Midland Bank, and then London Borough of Newham. She retired to Ashbocking in 2014, where she was an active gardener, flower arranger and attended the Ashbocking All Saint's Church.

The funeral service will be held at All Saint's Church in Ashbocking on Monday, 17 February at 2:00pm. All who knew and loved her are welcome to attend.

Nelum was a great lover of flowers, so floral arrangements are welcome. Donations if desired, made payable to Cancer Research UK can be made through Just giving above or, as with flowers, can be sent care of Andrew Bingham Independent Funeral Service, The Nutshell, Milton Road South, Stowmarket, IP14 1EZ Tel: 01449 771666.

Nelum is my loving sister in law, my late husband"s younger sister. I always remember her as a happy and a pleasant lady with a smile on her face all the time. She was a broad minded , understanding person loved by everyone known to her. She was selfless , very generous and always tried to bring happiness to the people aroud her. I still remember when most of us were living in Sri Lanka Nelum and her family visited SL once every two years. The period she spent in SL was an enjoyable time for the whole extended family. She brought all of us a lot of happiness, making opportunities to get together as one family.
She had loving affectionate habits like not forgetting her loved ones' birthdays and made it a habit to call each and everyone personally to wish on special days like Chistmas, Easter, and New Year!
She lived a life giving a true meaning to the words"sharing and caring." It is sad to lose such a loving, close family member, but I am happy she lived a fruitful life.
With her demise, I feel like one beautiful episode in life is over.
May her beautiful soul rest in peace.

It was pleasure to know Nel while working in Newham Education Department and NPW. We were neighbours for ten years when my family moved to Glenwood Gardens next road to Kemwood Gardens where Nel lived. May rest her soul in peace. Miss you always!
