Walter Bingham (16 Oct 1940 - 19 Jan 2025)

In loving memory of Walter Bingham who sadly passed away on 19th January 2025.

Walter grew up in and around Long Sutton, Lincolnshire, and was known as Sonny or Walt to close family and friends. He attended Spalding Grammar School, where he developed a lifelong passion for science, photography and sport - especially dinghy sailing, at which he would go on to compete at a national level.

It was at the sailing club of Sheffield University that he met his wife Janet. They married shortly after completing their studies at Sheffield and moved to Nottingham, where he took up a lectureship in Physical Chemistry at Trent Polytechnic - later to be known as Nottingham Trent University. Walter and Janet had two children - Stephen and Sarah. Sadly, Janet became seriously unwell in middle age with a degenerative neurological condition. Walter eventually took early retirement so that he could care for her full-time.

During her final years Janet and Walter developed an interest in campervanning - travelling extensively within the UK and in Europe. Walter continued this activity after Janet died, and through this eventually met his partner of the last 17 years - who also happens to be called Janet.
