In loving memory of Andrew Porter who sadly passed away on 19th January 2025.

Andrew was born in Scarborough in April 1975.
He was the much loved son of Gordon & Linda, the eldest brother to Stuart & Robert, uncle to Abi, Beth, Lottie & Isla and a very special friend to many.

Andrew discovered his love for food as a teenager and the below are Andrews own words on his food journey.

1999 my first chefs job got the job here as my best mate was on his way to London Andrew burn
I got the job as a chef de Partie I though I was quite good but came here and opened my eyes I met the head chef Andrew jones I remember thinking oh my god do I want to work here it was so professional l'd only ever worked with another chef in a kitchen now there was six and it was sectioned out I grow to love the food andrew jones was cooking I wasn't especially gifted as a chef but l've always been a hard working I would get in earlier than anyone and try to get the prep done before chef came in but also chef had exacting standard he used to bring his eldest son in and used to do speed chopping with him close your ears Julie jones but I late met up with Jake when I got a job at Weston where I decided just to cook food that I liked but always did the fish cakes and fish cream that Andrew jones showed me I am so glad I stuck it out and got the grounding at the worsley arms hard work long hours but everyone there cared about food and wanted to push on for chef it was like the army
So me and Jake jones worked together for 2 years he was 15 at the time and made the dessert for jay rayner and went on to have a great career so far l had the honour to work underneath Jake at James martins restaurant where he also became head chef at 25 he is so good can't believe he worked with me then I worked with him all came about from the mentoring of andrew jones and also we had Danny and Adam Jackson in our brigade Adam has gone on to win a michelin star at the black swan oldstead and 3 rosettes at the park by Adam Jackson can't believe I've actually worked with these amazing people.

Andrew unfortunately became unable to finish his career due to his health and battled with dialysis for just over ten years. However, his passion for food continued and he was always very positive about his future, always planning which restaurant he wanted to visit next.
He had a great collection of cook books, some of which he managed to get the chef to sign personally for him.
As well as having a great love for food Andrew was also a huge Liverpool football fan. He would watch any game and would constantly want to discuss at length each game with his dad.

Andrew will always be remembered for being kind, would always do anything he could for others, for his jokes & funny sense of humor, he will be missed by so many and will always have a place in so many peoples hearts.

  • Andrew and I met each other at catering college. He had a gift to make everyone he came into contact with feel at ease. Great sense of humour. Lots of happy times were had. Very fortunate to introduce Andrew to my husband. Between them both they could share their interests of food. Scott and Andrew are together in this picture. Andrew would often message asking to come over and work with us both. To which we always said yes to. Always asking about food. Giving advice. Shine bright Andrew. You will be sadly missed. 💝
