Joan - a Mum, Gran, Gee Gee (to her granddaughters who couldn’t say Great Grandmother), and a friend to many, died on Christmas Eve.

She was 98 years old and the same age as our last queen as she was often keen to remind you.

When Joan, Gerard and Jane holidayed about 20 miles from us some time ago, they spent an afternoon/evening at our remote home on the edge of the Lake District and we treated them to a bbq. By late afternoon, it had cooled down somewhat: not a problem for us as we had become acclimatised to the local weather. Our visitors had not, as you can see by comparing their clothing to ours! Wine was in free flow and, hopefully, that acted as a compensating factor. Joan was clearly enjoying her vino bianco. She was always good company and great to chat to. She will be sadly missed - RIP Joan.

Phil & family.

Miss you already, Gran. I hope you're with Grandad and Uncle Gerry, enjoying a glass of sherry. You'll always be remembered. Love from your Bonny Boy.

I treasure the wonderful memories I have of spending time with Joan. She loved to be driven around whenever we visited from Sweden. My son, Oliver, commented "aw that's sad. She was a very kind caring lady. I'm sorry for the family's loss." Glyn

Joan was someone who knew her own mind and was not afraid to speak it but she also accepted that others might think differently. On Wednesdays she would travel from her own home to Atherton, where Glyn and I lived, and spend time with us. She loved people, food and talk. We covered all sorts of topics big and small, dreams for the future and life's difficult times as well as what to wear for weddings and funerals! When the opportunity to live my own dream came into view she encouraged me to "go for it" even though she knew it meant we wouldn't meet very often if I did. We even discussed what to wear at funerals and I will be wearing the colour she encourage me to wear at hers. That was Joan and "go for it" sums her up in my opinion. With much love Brenda.
