In loving memory of James Staples who sadly passed away on 27th November 2024

James 'Jim', was born in East Kirkby, and was educated at Kingsway Senior Boys’ Council School
Kirkby-in-Ashfield. He lived most of his life in Edwinstowe.

James started his working life at Players factory in Nottingham before serving 6 years in the Welsh Guards. He then joined Nottinghamshire Police Force completing 30 years as a Police Officer based in Edwinstowe, earning much respect from the community he served.

Outside of work in earlier times, he carried on his enjoyment of rifle shooting from the army, as a member of Edwinstowe Rifle Club, competing in local and national competitions, and respected as a very good shot.

On retiring in 1984 he undertook several DIY home projects, enjoyed his garden and greenhouse, watching sports, especially football, appreciated Mediterranean holidays and spending time with his family.

James leaves his loving wife Julie, daughters Carol, Linda, Wendy, grandson Louis and granddaughter Natasha.

What a gentleman this police officer was of Edwinstowe Community in the 60s/70s during my childhood days, I had the pleasure of being known to PC Staples by my first Name, he also knew where I lived !! the distinctive sound of his 250cc MZ motor cycle (brrrrrrer-put-put-put) reverberating as it was approaching brought a sudden stop to what myself and friends were doing at the time followed by the words Slim Jim, and as usual up to mischief giving cause to hide, but this very first Bionic Cop always got his man so to say, followed by now then Raymond what are you up to, follow me !!! he would have myself and 3 or 4 of my mates run behind his motor cycle all the way home to report to our parents our activities of that day !! a good telling off from this giant of a man was all it took to keep us all in line.

It would have been one of my greatest pleasures to buy PC Staples a pint given the opportunity, Off Duty of Course.

To the best village bobby we ever had R,I,P Mr James Staples / PC Staples / Slim Jim
God Bless you sir with fond memories.
