Bernard Owen Richards (26 Jun 1930 - 20 Nov 2024)
Funeral Director
In loving memory of Bernard Owen Richards who sadly passed away on 20th November 2024
A look into Bernard and his life by the person who knew him best, his wife Audrey-
Bernard was born into a loving family in the summer of 1930. He was one of five children but he had a particularly strong relationship with his brother Alan and sister Betty.
He did well at school and went to work at BP. He was an Instrument Engineer and went on to earn several patents for things he invented. He was very clever but extremely modest about it all.
In 63years of marriage we never had to call in a “proper man”!
We met in 1952 and for me it was love at first sight. I don’t know about Bern, but he asked me for a date and we went out for a while. He then dumped me for another girl so I found another fella. We got back together again for a while and then the same thing happened! This went on and off until 1960 when I think he must have decided I was “the one”.
We married in 1961 and that was the start of 63 wonderful years. We had our sad times but got through them together. Thanks to my sister we had the loveliest family with whom we spent so many lovely times. We were also blessed with many great friends with whom we shared fun evenings and holidays.
Bern had two particular hobbies, one was wood turning and the other was the garden. We always had beautiful flowers, many of which won prizes at local horticultural shows.
Bern was very laid back and relaxed about everything, which was a good balance for my worrying – about nothing mostly. He was a loving, kind and thoughtful person who looked after me. After early retirement I had tea and breakfast in bed every day!
We spent 63 years together, laughing and making memories, which I will treasure forever.
