With great sadness, we announce the passing of Cyril Thomas Bray, who left us peacefully on 17th November 2024, just 10 days before his 101st birthday.
Born on 27th November 1923, Cyril left school at 13 to train as a butcher. When World War II broke out, he answered the call to serve his country, joining the Royal Navy as an engineer on minesweepers, bravely working to make the seas safer.
After the war, Cyril met the love of his life, Philomena Walsh, in Fidown, County Kilkenny, Ireland. They married and returned to England, where they built a life together and raised three daughters.
Cyril was a man of strong convictions—a passionate supporter of the Labour Party and a devoted Charlton Athletic FC fan. He loved gardening, painting, and model making. In retirement, he took up golf and enjoyed the game for many years.
Cyril leaves behind a loving family: his three daughters, six grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. He was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed by all who knew him.
His memory lives on in the hearts of his family, his friends, and the stories he leaves behind.
Rest in peace, Cyril. You will never be forgotten.
