In loving memory of Brian Thomas Dimock.
Brian was born in Walthamstow, London in 1938, to Bill and Ethel Dimock the youngest of 6 children. His brother died at 11 months and was followed by 4 sisters, Pat, Jean, Rita, and Daphne. When Brian was born, he was very much loved and doted upon as the only boy. He became his father's shadow and spent many hours with his father delivering meat from Smithfield Market. He was also very loyal and close to his Mum who he adored. School was more a social event than education for Brian and he had fond memories of schoolfriends and playing sport.
He did his National Service in Wilshire aged 18 and always remembered watching Buddy Holly in concert during this time.
Sport was a huge part of Brian's life where he enjoyed playing cricket, football, athletics, and table-tennis throughout school, the Army and Ford Motor company. He was especially pleased to watch several Olympics live during his lifetime. When Richard started playing football, Brian became a referee. A hobby he continued for many years. Brian's other main hobby was collecting model cars.
Brian worked for Fords for over 32 years as a personnel manager and was there during the Sewing machinist strike which resulted in changes in the law for equal pay.
Brian was married to Linda and had 2 children Paula and Richard. They moved to Chelmsford before Paula’s birth and lived happily there until Linda’s tragic death in 1989. Brian took early retirement 2 years later and then took on many volunteering roles until he became a Magistrate for 12 years. He resided over 1500 cases which he thoroughly enjoyed. He earned the nickname 'Lord Justice Dimock ' from one of the crown court judges which he found amusing.
He was very lucky to meet his friend Jackie in the 1990s and they were able to travel and holiday together for many years.
Brian was very much a family man and was close to all his family, especially Richard & Leanne, and Paula & Nick. He loved being a grandfather to his 3 grandchildren Oliver, Izzy and Caitlin. He spent many hours with them, collecting them from school, taking them to clubs but being very present in their lives.
Sadly, after Lockdown Brian was diagnosed with Alzheimer and spent the last 18 months in a care home. He declined rapidly after many hospital admissions and passed away on 14th November 2024.
