Dearest Al,
Although I can't attend today, I am there in spirit. ( no, not vodka)
I will be forever grateful that I got to spend time with you this summer. It was a bitter sweet time.
I printed off the photos from your 70th birthday party and we would spend hours looking through them and remembering your old friends and clients.
Many that you remembered on your own the next time around. You made little jokes occaisionally, saying who are these two then? The king and queen? ....
It was a photo of you and me !!
In those moments, I'd see a glimmer of the old sparkle and the old Al that was quite the mischief maker. It warmed my heart.
When it was time for me to leave, I loved it when you'd say " come back again soon Neet !

There are so many memories to process, so much fun and so many holidays and good times to look back on. Always with a smile and love in my heart.
Almost 50 yrs ago i came from Scarborough to start my apprenticeship at Johnalans.
You always used to call me a Scar-barian....which you made sound like barbarian!
We went many many times to my mums in Scarborough where you used to egg her on to drink the whole bottle of sherry for a goodnights sleep!! You were the only person that could get her laughing uncontrollably.
We would sing Liza Minelli songs on the drive up and always had the best times.
Some random butch Scarborough fisherman in the pub said you looked like Danny La Rue...you replied ' what?? even with these earrings....lol
You used to have the funniest comebacks and people loved you for it!
We had many holidays in Italy with Romano, which obviously involved drinking copious amounts of alcohol and occasionally having to carry you out of the bar or restaurant, usually singing some Broadway hit and waving your arms theatrically....never a dull moment with you AL!
You came to Canada with Shirl, we celebrated your 65th birthday and went around Vancouver Island in my Motor home. It was hilarious to see you carting the wheelbarrow full of wood back for us to make a fire! Very butch of you!

You were always the life and soul of any venue and gathering and everyone gravitated to you.
You shon like a bright light that will live on in our hearts and memories always.....
Till we meet again darling Al....
continue to SHINE ON as you always did!
Love you and miss you so much.

I feel very sad to hear of Alan’s death. I was really hoping to meet up and reminisce on times past. You were a sweet, funny boss, and helped me from the age of thirteen, during my time at Johnalan, and set me on a path with the career of hairdressing. Rest in peace Alan xxx
