Enid was born on July 6th 1944 in a small house in Edwin Road in Wigmore, not far from the home she lived in at the time of her passing. Her family (Enid, her brother Gerry and her parents Ted & Irene) moved from the house to a boat moored on the Medway and she spent much of her childhood there.
She went to Fort Pitt School in Rochester and then earned a secretarial qualification. She joined the Solicitors Arnold, Tuff and Grimwade, where she met Brian Swan, a Solicitor's Clerk. They married in 1965. Her mum sadly died soon after.
In 1971 they fostered a 7-month-old boy called John whom they formally adopted in 1978. Brian & Enid were able to attend John's wedding to Katharine in 1998, but Brian was becoming increasingly weak from his lifelong condition of Muscular Dystrophy and he died in 1999. Katharine and John had a daughter Evelyn in 2009 and Enid became a devoted grandmother. She was already a very popular Aunty to her family on her parents' side.
A few years later Enid began a new relationship with Roly Bird, an old family friend, and they were still together at the time of Enid's death. With John, Katharine & Roly's support Enid fought off Breast Cancer in 2016 and Pancreatic Cancer in 2022, but the cancer returned for a third time in early 2024.
She was a gentle and warm lady with a wonderful sense of humour. She treated everyone she met with kindness and respect and throughout her life gave her time & energy unsparingly to help & support others.
